With both CBeebies Storytime and GO CBBC launching earlier this year, the BBC is also expecting their apps for children to continue to grow. The corporation is hoping that as people unwrap mobiles and tablets over Christmas, app sales will receive a corresponding bump, similar to last year’s seasonal sales cheer – nearly 1m iPlayer apps were downloaded between 21 December and 1 January. The broadcaster’s top 10 chart also reveals that The Voice app hit seventh spot, with downloads totalling 825,000, enough to make it the top performing programme-specific app.ĬBeebies Storytime, launched in August this year with an emphasis on reading, totalled 576,000 downloads and the eighth chart position, out-performing show-linked “playalong” apps CBBC Ludus in ninth spot with 180,000 and the CBBC Gory Games app with 156,000, which occupies number 10. The BBC described the weather app as its “fastest growing” of all time since it went live last summer.ĬBeebies Playtime, a collection of mini-games for children based on CBeebies programming, is the sixth most popular app with downloads adding up to 3.4m. The national obsession with the elements is reflected in the 9.5m downloads for the third-placed BBC Weather app. In second place in a list of the BBC’s 10 most popular apps published on Monday is BBC News, the corporation’s oldest app launched in 2010, with 15m downloads.
